The German head coach has responded to an interview in which the striker claimed to be “unhappy” with his situation in west London
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted to being surprised by Romelu Lukaku’s comments about being unhappy at the club, while vowing to talk to the £98 million ($132m) star “behind closed doors”.
Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge from Inter in a big-money summer transfer after two successful years in Italy, committing to a five-year contract with the Blues.
However, the 28-year-old has not been an automatic starter under the German as he has dealt with a string of fitness issues, and has risked the wrath of club officials by expressing his frustration in the Italian media.
What did Lukaku say?
Lukaku sat down with Sky Italia to discuss his situation at the start of December, and admitted to being unhappy in west London.
The Belgium international also hinted at a possible return to Inter, saying: “Physically I’m fine, even better than before. After two years in Italy, in which I worked a lot at Inter with coaches and nutritionists.
“I’m not happy with the situation and that’s only natural. The head coach has decided to play a different system but I need to keep working hard and be professional.
“I’m not happy with the situation but I’m a grafter and must not let up.”
Lukaku’s remarks have come as a shock to Tuchel, who claims to have seen no signs of any dejection or anger from the forward in training.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool on Sunday, the German head coach told reporters: “We will talk with Lukaku openly behind closed doors. I am surprised because I don’t see him unhappy – the opposite.
“We here can take the time to try to understand what is going on with Romelu, it does not reflect the daily attitude.”
Tuchel says the publication of the interview is an unwanted distraction for his side, but he is reluctant to criticise Lukaku at this stage in case his words have been misinterpreted.
“We don’t like it of course. It brings noise that we don’t need and it’s not helpful,” he added.
“We don’t want to make more out of it than it actually is. It is easy to take lines out of context, shorten lines, make headlines and then realise later that it is not so bad and maybe not what he meant.”

Watford manager Claudio Ranieri has denied insulting Nigeria Football Federation by blocking Emmanuel Dennis from playing at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Dennis has been replaced in the squad by Slavia Prague’s Peter Olayinka in a major boost for Watford, who are battling to escape the drop from the Premier League.
”I knew they were speaking, the Watford board and Nigeria board and I accept every decision they’re fine and that for me is finished,” Ranieri told a press conference on Friday.
“No [we have not insulted AFCON]. We respect everybody. They have a lot of players and they changed the manager then changed everything.
“We were ready to give them players. They didn’t do this and the two boards spoke and for me it’s ok. I am only the manager, the coach and I accept everything.”

Naomi Campbell, the British supermodel and businesswoman, has revealed how Nigerian Grammy winner, Ayodeji Balogun, alias Wizkid, introduced her to his deaf photographer.
Campbell, 51, who fondly referred to Wizkid as her little brother, took to her Instagram page on Thursday to hail the singer for a successful career so far.
She further narrated how Wizkid introduced her to his deaf photographer after performing at the sold out O2 Arena for his Made in Lagos album tour.
She said, “Your first night at 02 after your show, you should be celebrating but you are introducing me to your photographer who writes on his phone that he would like to be the first Indian photographer, and break the barrier for the deaf and dumb community to make it in fashion.
“I start talking back and you tell me, he can’t hear you and can’t talk to you either, you then proceed to take my phone and write and translate to him so we can be connected!! This is who you are!” (sic)
Crediting the Grammy winner for making Afrobeats a mainstream sound in the world, Campbell disclosed that the superstar had refused to release several albums because he is a perfectionist.
“Big Wiz @wizkidayo, proud to call you my lil bro and to see with everyone, your journey unfold. Many albums we will never hear, as you are the quintessential perfectionist!
“You have brought Afrobeats mainstream to the world, and always bringing your brothers and sisters alongside you! 1st Billboard Top 10 Essence, breaking records, selling out 02 for three consecutive nights, Grammy nominations, Apple artist of the year and many others,” she hailed.

Rita Onwurah, a Nigerian filmmaker, on Friday decried the treatment of Nigerian movie marketers in Ghana, as she claimed that the Ghanaian marketers refuse to pay after selling movies.
Onwurah said this while reacting to Ghanaian singers, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, who had criticized Nigerians for not reciprocating the love shown to them by Ghana.
Narrating an ordeal, Onwurah wrote, “Couldn’t even sell your DVDs in Ghana directly as a Nigerian marketer/ distributor. You’d have to get a Ghanaian marketer, redesign and reprint new DVD jackets with the marketer’s company named as a distributor, to sell. And those ones will sell your films & owe you for months.
“That’s why this whole ‘kwolu anyi n’azu’ (carry us on the back) their music artistes are doing, is as ridiculous as it is annoying. If the tables were turned, they would’ve accused Nigerian artists of wanting to colonise their industry and kicked them out.”
Responding to Stonebwoy’s assertion against Nigerians earlier, the filmmaker had said, “I’m wondering if you guys would do same if it were the other way round. Because I’m willing to place a bet and say ‘no’.”
She added, “Funny seeing their musicians all entitled and demanding. When I can still remember what their movie producers/ marketers did to their Nollywood counterparts.
“They’re mad. Why do you think our actors/ actresses hardly feature in their movies? Those guys are pretty rich with their entitlement when it’s very clear that they’ll do worse if the tables were turned.”

Hard Work, Not Entitlement Mentality, Promoted Our Artistes – Nigerians Blast Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale
An angry cross-section of Nigerians has slammed Ghanaian artistes, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, for their recent accusations against the likes of Wizkid, Davido.
Shatta Wale had in a recent Twitter rant called out Nigerian artistes for not reciprocating the love and support Ghana artistes and citizens show them.
Also, Stonebwoy backing Shatta Wale said that although his colleague’s approach may be wrong, his message is valid.
Stonebwoy asked that Nigerian artistes allow music from other African countries to flourish on Nigerian platforms on the local and international scene.
This stirred up reactions as some Nigerians went online describing their statements as having ‘entitlement mentality’.
Some stated that hard work not having an entitlement mentality put Nigerian artistes on the global map which should be emulated by Ghanaian artistes.
Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter;
@Savvyrinu “ Ranting and entitlement mentality did not put Nigerian music on global platforms. Hard work did. Nobody forced us to listen or dance to Fuse ODG. It’s not by guilt trip, na by grace, merit and hard work. Africa is one but when you need someone to blame, it’s Nigeria. When Mafikizolo, Tchelete, Master KG from SA controlled Nigerian airwaves for many years, no one complained. Good songs no get enemy.”
@Asiwajulerry “ Shall we start listing the numerous collaborations Wizkid, Davido and Burna boy have all done with Ghana artistes? Learn from your fellow Nigerian artistes and brothers, if you don’t push yourself, there’s little to what foreign or brotherly countries can do to push you. Up your pen games!
@Letom “ The entitlement is shocking. Music is business, Burna Boy was hawking B. D’OR on the streets of London two weeks ago . Nothing is going to be handed to any of you, Stonebwoy. Put in the work. Imagine us asking English people to watch our league because we watch the EPL.”
@ChiefNomso “ Nigerian Artistes have done countless music with Ghanaian Artistes for over a decade, Joeboy FT a GH artiste this year. Why are Ghanaians not urging South Africans to push their Music? Or only NG can, Nigerian Music got to where it is today cos Nigerians supported their Music.”
@Mikeoriv “ The only valid thing you said here is the Airplay discussion which is debatable. Anything apart from that is pure cap, No other nation shows love to Ghanaian artiste like Nigeria. From R2bees to Sarkodie to so many other guys. Even Ckay’s Love nwantitin had kwesi Arthur on It.”
@Omojuwa “ My Ghana brother Bright Simons says it best, Nigerians are driven. They will push and push. No is not a valid answer. You all should go sit down with Bright so he can show you how to conquer the world with your music. Emotional blackmail won’t cut it! It’s worth zero in the market.”
@Letter_to_jack “ Nigerians love good sound, that’s what gets our attention. This is why Awilo Logomba sacked our airwaves, becoming the life of every Nigerian party. South African songs do that too every now and then. If you want Nigerians to embrace your songs, meet our needs; EVOLVE.”
@WhoisLato “ There’s no big difference between what you said and what Shatta Wale said, the only difference is he’s ranting and you made note about it and tweet it. Why are you guys so envious over there?? Instead of you to sit down and learn from Nigerians and be better at it.”
@GraceChieke “I wish Nigerian artiste more billboard hot 100 next year, more sold out shows and more worldwide recognition. You people have not seen anything, the real fire is coming next year. Make good music, we long good music. You’re not gonna emotional blackmail us.
@MissTeeOfficial “Reducing Nigeria’s musical impact to just being about population is bloody disrespectful. No Nigerian artist wakes up one day and blows, the hard work that goes into the craft is insane. This entitlement is bizarre. Nigerians LOVE other African sounds and support those artists.”
@Samsenaexe “ They constantly make a mockery of us for our security challenges with Boko Haram. They tease me with it every time. They yab our power supply issue. The one thing Nigeria is far better than them at and globally accepted at. They feel jealous and threatened and want it by force.”
@Olly “Please, drop that silly population talk. South Korea does not have a large population, but their entertainment industry has broken barriers worldwide, from music to movies. Stop reducing the hard work of Nigerian acts to “population”, it’s insulting.”
@Drew “ Your biggest song on Spotify and Youtube is a collaboration with a Nigerian artist, be grateful. we owe you nothing.”
